'Villa del Vento’ loosely translates as ‘House in the Wind’ in Italian. The house is named for the nor’wester that was particularly fierce when the house was first built. Thankfully the shelter trees are doing their bit now and the house no longer lives up to its name quite so well.

With an Italian Grandmother and our father importing Italian food and wine for Canterbury’s restaurants my 3 sisters and I grew up with Italian food and culture. We started ‘The Mediterranean Food Company’ when we were still quite young and after nearly 20 years we were ready for a change. I’ve always been a cake maker even before I was a chef and when I finally had the time I started making sugar paste flowers and multi tiered cakes for friends. That’s how Villa del Vento Cakes began.
